Our Care Pathway Difference

Legacy Prosthetic’s in-house amputee care delivers the best therapeutic experience in the industry. When the surgeon, prosthetist, and care coordinator work together onsite, the patient wins with the best possible outcome.

Amputation Recovery Pathway

Step 1

Surgeon, patient, and prosthetist meet to determine the best surgical procedure and chart the recovery pathway. Multidisciplinary collaboration assures the best outcome.

Step 2

Prosthetist meets with patient post-operatively for incision care and to map rehab.

Step 3

Prosthetist fits multiple trial prosthesis and guides rehab process through a series of appointments.

Step 4

Prosthetist fits the permanent prosthetic when patient is fully recovered at about 3-6 months post-op.

Step 5

Patient resumes normal activities and follows up with prosthetist every 6 months for adjustments and supplies.

For the past thirteen years, Joel Walker has provided innovative, advanced care for amputees. His multidisciplinary approach helps the care team design a unique plan that gets patients back out there comfortably. This integrated pathway starts at the pre-operative meeting and continues for life. Legacy’s patient-centered care assures the best outcome possible.

Joel’s post-graduate prosthetics certificate is from Northwestern Medical School and his residency was completed in Denver, CO. With his fabrication skills, many prosthetic adjustments can be made right in the office while you wait. He is a board-certified prosthetist from the American Board for Certification in Prosthetics.
